The Award

The Egon-Stahl-Award in Gold is the highest scientific honour of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA). It can be awarded every third year beginning in the year 1999.

The Egon-Stahl-Award in Gold acknowledges the outstanding scientific lifetime work of a research scientist who has been closely attached to Pharmaceutical Biology (Pharmacognosy, Chemistry of Natural Products), in its whole range, through his scientific work.

The prize will be awarded during the annual congress of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research in such a way that a special ceremony can be held. The candidate will have the opportunity to present a scientific contribution. The congress fee will therefore be waived for the awardee.

Nominations can be made by all regular members of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research. Self-nominations can not be considered.

The Egon-Stahl-Award in Gold must be announced in suitable journals at least 6 months before the deadline for nominations. Nominations must be submitted to the President of the Society for Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research by the 15th of March of the year in which the award is to be given. The deadline for submission may be modified by the Executive Council  by way of exception.

The following must be enclosed with the nomination:

A nomination for the prize (self nominations will not be considered) should include

  • a curriculum vitae incorporating at least the most important data on the candidate’s scientific career
  • an index on his/her publications
  • a supporting letter
  • a detailed acknowledgment of the scientific works
  • names of further experts who could be consulted

All documents shall be submitted as pdf-files via email to our Scientific Officer, Cornelia Kern.

The President, the Vice-Presidents, the Treasurer and the Secretary of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research will give expert advice about the nominations submitted and make a selection.
The President is free to consult further experts.
