At the 74th International Congress of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) GA2026Reims, we were delighted to honour Prof. Dr. Andreas Hensel, University of Münster, Germany, with Honorary Membership of our Society.
Prof. Hensel has been one of GA’s most dedicated and long-standing members, contributing to the Society for more than two decades and leaving his mark across many aspects of its scientific community. From his service on the GA Board, including as Board Member from 2008-2009 and 2014 to 2021, to his longstanding involvement in the scientific committees of numerous GA Congresses, his commitment to the Society has been truly exceptional.
For many years, Andreas was also the familiar voice behind the GA Newsletter, playing a central role in connecting and informing our international community.
His commitment to GA was also reflected in hosting the 61st International Congress and Annual Meeting of GA in Münster in 2013 with Prof. Dr. Thomas Schmidt, bringing the global natural products community to his home institution. Most recently, his scientific achievements were recognised with the GA Synergy Award 2025.
As Professor at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology and Phytochemistry at the University of Münster, his research spans natural product chemistry, glycobiology, ethnopharmacology, analytical standardisation and the pharmacological potential of medicinal plants.
With this Honorary Membership, GA recognises not only an outstanding scientist, but also a colleague whose dedication, generosity and continuous service have helped shape our Society and strengthen its international community.
