online, 2.00 PM – 4.00 PM (CET / SAST)
Background and Rationale
Africa’s rich biodiversity and indigenous knowledge of medicinal plants offer significant opportunities to discover bioactive compounds to address health challenges such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR), diabetes, and other diseases. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and computational biology now provide powerful tools for identifying and prioritising promising metabolites. However, translating these predictions into potential health solutions requires rigorous experimental validation, intellectual property development and appropriate translational pathways.
This webinar will bring together experts representing complementary stages of this process to explore how Africa’s natural-product diversity and indigenous knowledge can be integrated with computational technologies, experimental science and translational approaches to advance therapeutic discovery and health innovation.
Aim and Objectives
The webinar aims to explore an integrated pathway for advancing African natural products from discovery to potential health applications. It will examine the role of AI and computational biology in identifying promising compounds, experimental approaches for validating their biological activity, pathways towards intellectual property and product development, and the scientific and regulatory translation of African traditional medicines.
The seminar will be held online via Zoom. Participation is free. Please register here.
